The Royals signed veteran first baseman and outfielder Brandon Moss to a two-year, $12 million deal Sunday, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan.

The deal is pending a physical, which is expected to come this upcoming week, according to Passan.

Moss, 33, has been plagued by injuries at times in his career but has proven to be a valuable power hitter when healthy. Over 128 games with the Cardinals last season, he hit .225/.300/.484 with 28 home runs and 67 RBIs.

Though Moss’ batting line doesn’t match his production of late, he adds power to a Kansas City lineup that will likely benefit from the addition of a left-handed hitter. Moss could serve as the Royals’ designated hitter, a piece they’ve lacked since Kendrys Morales joined the Blue Jays earlier this offseason.

The market for Moss didn’t seem to develop much, but the Royals were able to add one of the more experienced free agent bats available on the market.
