Another ring has been added to the Giancarlo Stanton trade circus and it’s occupied by the St. Louis Cardinals. The slugger’s reps have reportedly met with people from the Cardinals franchise in Los Angeles today, as reported by MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. This comes a day after Stanton’s camp met with representatives from the Giants.
While it has not yet been reported what the Cardinals are offering for Stanton, the demand for the slugger appears to be building by the day. As Morosi notes, while this doesn’t mean a deal has been made, both the Cardinals and Giants have put both their money and their farm systems where their mouth is.
The 28-year old recently told the Marlins which teams he would prefer to be traded to, with the Dodgers at the very top of the list. It’s still unclear whether or not he’d accept a trade to St. Louis or San Francisco.
