Both the Cardinals and Rockies are seeking a potential trade with the Rays for last year’s saves leader in Alex Colome, Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports reports.
The Rockies are likely seeing to fill the void that will be left behind by free agent Greg Holland, who rejected the Rockies’ qualifying offer. The Cardinals recently acquired Luke Gregerson, but are still seeking to improve their bullpen.
Both the Cardinals and Rockies have young talent at their disposal to make a move for the 29-year-old who racked up 47 saves and a 3.24 ERA in 2017.
The Rays are expected to be very active at the Winter Meetings this week, with multiple players on the trading block, including Colome and Chris Archer.
Colome is projected to earn between $5 and $6 million in arbitration next season, and is under team control for the next three seasons.
