Here’s a roundup of what’s going on around the American League West.

  • The Diamondbacks signed Daniel Descalso to a one-year deal.

  • Major League Baseball is considering automatically putting runners in scoring position in extra innings. That doesn’t sound like a great idea.

  • It’s unlikely the Padres sign Jake Peavy in their pursuit of starting pitching depth, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

  • The White Sox outrighted catcher Kevan Smith to Triple-A, the club announced Friday.

  • Toronto signed Jose Tabata to a minor league deal, according to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.

  • Free agent outfielder Collin Cowgill is among San Diego’s non-roster invitees, according to a team announcement.

  • Pittsburgh designated Nefi Ogando for assignment, the club announced Friday.

  • The Angels acquired pitcher Austin Adams from the Indians for either a player to be named later or cash, the team announced.

  • Baltimore acquired righty Gabriel Ynoa from the Mets, and he could compete for a spot in the Orioles bullpen.

  • There are four teams in the mix for free agent infielder Chase Utley, according to Rosenthal.

  • Pedro Alvarez could be among the players the Twins consider after Mike Napoli signed with the Rangers, according to Heyman.

  • Thirteen teams watched former Mets pitcher Jon Niese throw Friday, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.
