The Indians have agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million deal with left-hander Boone Logan, according to FOX’s Ken Rosenthal. The deal includes a $7 million club option or $1 million buyout for 2018, per Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Logan was said to be drawing strong interest early in the winter from the Yankees and Mets, but his market was slow to develop with fellow lefties Craig Breslow, Jerry Blevins and Javier Lopez still on the board. He will become the second lefty in the Tribe’s bullpen mix, joining ALCS MVP Andrew Miller, and will likely appear in a situational role against lefties.
Logan, 32, pitched to a 3.69 ERA and 11.1 K/9 in 46.1 innings for the Rockies last year in the third year of a three-year deal he signed with Colorado in 2013. He was replaced with Mike Dunn in Denver, leading to a job search that ended just a couple weeks before spring training.
Logan is a veteran of 11 major-league seasons with the White Sox (2006-08), Braves (2009), Yankees (2010-13) and Rockies (2014-16), and owns a career 28-23 record and 4.45 ERA in 581 relief appearances.
