The Padres have signed Jered Weaver to a one year, $3M contract, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. There were a lot of questions about the Padres starting rotation as the team began spring training. Now San Diego has added both pitching depth and a veteran presence just after the hopes of the team snatching Jake Peavy died down.

Here’s what else is happening in the National League West:

  • Jon Gray is ready to become the Rockies’ top starter.
  • Christian Bethancourt is a beautiful, mystical, confusing baseball anomaly.
  • The Diamondbacks have signed Jorge De La Rosa to minor-league contract.
  • The Dodgers have traded LHP Vidal Nuño to Orioles for RHP Ryan Moseley.
  • The Giants have signed outfielder Slade Heathcott, who has one of the coolest names in baseball.
  • The Rockies’ front office has its strengths and weaknesses, so here’s a cheat sheet on what Colorado is already doing pretty well and what they could work on.
  • Check out the crazy delivery of Padres pitcher, Carter Capps.
  • Here’s an awesome video by AZ Snake Pit from the first full day of Diamondbacks spring training workouts.
  • Clayton Kershaw has been named the Opening Day starter for the Dodgers this year...for the seventh straight year in a row.
  • The Michael Morse move by the Giants has received a lot of speculation. Can he still be a decent asset to San Fransisco?
  • Colorado prospected Yeremi Rosario has been suspended over a failed drug test.
  • The Diamondbacks have announced the interim bench coach as the Reno Aces manager, Jerry Narron.
  • Hyun-jin Ryu is laser focused on landing a spot in the Los Angeles rotation.
  • San Fransisco has signed utility infielder Aaron Hill.
