2017 Front Office Confidence Survey - Preseason Edition

A couple of times a year, we take a moment to ask you how you think the front offices are doing around Major League Baseball by taking an online survey. Last summer, just after the Trade Deadline, more than 3,300 of you responded and were understandably high on the Cubs’ dynamic duo of Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer, Jon Daniels of the Rangers, and Mike Rizzo of the Nationals. And understandably so. All three had strong performances at the Deadline, with the Cubs picking up Aroldis Chapman, the Rangers Jonathan Lucroy, and the Nats Mark Melancon. The Cubs were on the way to their first World Championship since 1908, while the Rangers and Nats both wound up winning 95 games.

You were especially low on Dave Stewart of the Diamondbacks, Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn of the White Sox, and Dick Williams of the Reds. Since then, Stewart (who consistently fared poorly in our surveys) has been replaced in Arizona by Mike Hazen. The Sox have decided to rebuild and Williams has continued to sell off various veterans in Cincinnati.

With Opening Day less than a week away, now is a good time to run our survey again, before the heartbreak starts. How do you think the offseason went? Has Spring Training made you more or less hopeful for 2017? And is there anyone who is already on the hot seat? Has your opinion changed since last year?

The confidence ratings are on a scale of one to five, with five being the highest. I’ll be back next week to present you with the results, along with your comments about each GM.
