The Mariners have designated outfielder Leonys Martin for assignment. The beginning of this season looked like it would fall in line with the trouble the center fielder has been having at the plate since 2015. Slashing an anemic .111/.172/.130 in 2017 so far, Martin’s speed and defensive skills were not enough to compensate for his offensive woes.
Here’s what else is going down in the American League West:
- The Athletics acquire Ryan LaMarre and add to their outfield depth.
- The Angels send Garrett Richards to the 60-day DL and bring Luis Valbuena back.
- Houston has recalled James Hoyt and moved Jandel Gustave to the 10-day disabled list.
- Sam Dyson and Brett Nicholas will start their respective rehab assignments for Texas.
- The A’s call up Matt Olson and option Cesar Valdez.
- Where in the world is Nate Smith?
- 2017 will be the year of Akeem Bostick.
- Seattle has sent Dan Altavilla to the minors and called up Chase De Jong.
- Here’s why Joey Gallo homering on 3-0 is a big deal.

- Carlos Perez optioned, Los Angeles calls up Juan Graterol.
- Guess what everyone: Mitch Haniger is here to stay.
