The Texas Rangers have acquired Joely Rodriguez from the Phillies for a player to be named later or cash. The lefty has a 5.40 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 36.2 innings this year. Texas now must consider a corresponding roster move. The relief pitcher has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock for now but could potentially be called up by the All-Star break.
Here’s what else is happening in the American League West:
- How excited should the Mariners be about Sam Carlson?
- Yonder Alonso leads AL first basemen in All-Star voting.
- The Angels select outfielder Jordon Adell 10th overall.
- The Astros have called-up outfielder Derek Fisher.
- Oakland options RHP Frankie Montas to Triple-A Nashville.
- Mike Napoli starts his rehab assignment today.
- Safeco field naming contract to expire after 2018...as if we needed to get used to yet another MLB stadium name change.
- Matt Chapman will be called up to the Athletics.
- How the are Angels surviving without Mike Trout? Pretty well, to be completely honest.
- The Houston Astros have selected pitcher J.B. Bukauskas with the No. 15 pick.
