The Royals have agreed to a major-league deal with reliever Neftali Feliz, according to FOX’s Ken Rosenthal. Right-hander Chris Young was designated for assignment to make room.
Feliz, who signed a one-year, $5.35 million deal with Milwaukee before the season, was designated for assignment and released by the Brewers this week. He posted a 6.00 ERA in 29 appearances for the Brewers, losing his spot at closer to Corey Knebel before losing his roster spot altogether.
Kansas City is expected to sell at the non-waiver trade deadline next month, though the club currently sits at 35-36, just four games back of the AL Central-leading Indians. If the club does trade key bullpen pieces like Kelvin Herrera and Joakim Soria, Feliz could step into a larger role as a veteran arm with back-end experience.
Kansas City is the fifth organization of Feliz’ career, as he has also spent time with the Rangers, Tigers, Pirates and Brewers.
