The Nationals are not pursuing high-end starters like Yu Darvish or Sonny Gray, according to FOX’s Ken Rosenthal. Previous reports linked Washington to both righties in the wake of Stephen Strasburg’s injury, but Rosenthal reports that the club is not pursuing pitchers at that level.
Strasburg is slated to miss only one start, with prospect Erick Fedde taking over in his place. The Nats, who have a stable of prospects led by outfielder Victor Robles, likely had the pieces to get a deal done for Gray or Darvish, but appear content with moving forward with their group of Strasburg, Fedde, Max Scherzer, Tanner Roark, Gio Gonzalez and Edwin Jackson.
Gray is almost a lock to be traded before Monday’s deadline and has drawn interest from the Yankees, Brewers, Mariners, Astros and Braves most prominently. Darvish is less of a lock to get moved but has been linked to the Dodgers, Yankees and Astros.
