The Marlins and Brewers are involved in “ongoing dialogue” on a deal that would send righty Dan Straily to Milwaukee, per Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com. It’s unclear if a deal is close.

Miami is known to be listening on offers for Straily, who is under club control through the 2020 season. He is surely drawing interest as a backup option for the clubs not looking to pay a premium for Yu Darvish or Sonny Gray, with the Dodgers already among the teams with reported interest.

Straily owns a 3.84 ERA and 4.38 FIP in 117.1 innings for Miami this year after coming over in a trade with Cincinnati last winter. He has quietly become an effective starter in the National League over the last two years, causing a club like the Brewers, who are looking for controllable starting pitching, to have serious interest.

Milwaukee has been linked to Gray after losing out in the Jose Quintana sweepstakes but seems to have fallen behind the Yankees in the race for the Athletics righty. Straily would make sense as a cheaper, controllable option for a Brewers team that is right at the beginning of its contention window.
