The Astros have interest in Cardinals starter Lance Lynn, according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. It’s unclear if the sides have had serious talks.
Houston has been on the periphery of talks for top starters Sonny Gray and Yu Darvish so far this summer, though they don’t appear to be favored to land either one. Lynn, a rental who is a free agent at the end of the year, has been the subject of rumors despite St. Louis sitting on the buy/sell fence at just 4.5 games back in the NL Central.
One would think that the tension caused between the Astros and Cardinals organizations due to the recent hacking scandal would cause the teams to be wary of dealing with each other, but Morosi reports that it shouldn’t be an issue. Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow drafted Lynn when Luhnow was with the Cardinals, meaning he knows him well.
Lynn, 30, has worked to a 3.21 ERA in 21 starts this season. He has also been linked to the Yankees and Royals in recent rumors, though New York appears less likely now that the club is favored to land both Jaime Garcia and Sonny Gray.
