MLB trade rumors and news: Yankees have Red Sox in sights after topping A’s in AL Wild Card game

• The Yankees will get a shot to take down the rival Red Sox in the ALDS after posting a 7-2 victory over the Athletics in Wednesday’s AL Wild Card game.
• A day after the Rockies topped them in a classic NL Wild Card game, the Cubs received news that shortstop Addison Russell will be suspended 40 games for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy.
• After the Orioles lost 115 games this season, the franchise decided to not bring back manager Buck Showalter for 2019.
• In a game that will likely end up in the “Classics” vault on MLB.tv before too long, the Rockies defeated the Cubs 2-1 in a 13-inning thriller that saw the Cubs use three-fourths of their would-be playoff rotation, Terrance Gore accumulate 10 percent of his career plate appearances, Trevor Story go 3 for 6 without an RBI, and .170 hitter/.577 OPSer Tony Wolters drive in the go-ahead run. As a result, the Rockies will face the Brewers in their first NLDS since 2009.
• In a move that surprised some, the Twins shook things up in the dugout, firing Minnesota icon and 2017 AL Manager of the Year Paul Molitor after four seasons.
