The MLB Daily Dish is a daily feature we’re running here at MLBDD that rounds up roster-impacting news, rumors, and analysis. Have feedback or have something that should be shared? Hit us up at @mlbdailydish on Twitter or @MLBDailyDish on Instagram.
- Jerry DiPoto continue his impression of that fantasy manager in your league that makes five trade proposals every week to each team in the league as Seattle sent Jean Segura to the Phillies before the ink was even dry on the Cano deal. The move has not been particularly well-received due to the lack of a great return for the Mariners.
- After a bit of drama surrounding his future, Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts has gotten the deal he wanted as he signed an extension with the club through 2022. With back to back World Series appearances under his belt, it always felt like an extension was a no brainer. However, the length of the delay for the extension does mean that there were a few things that the two sides had to work through despite the team’s success.
- Well folks, it actually happened. The Mariners and Mets have officially signed deal for Robinson Canó and Edwin Díaz to be sent to Queens by way of almost all of the Mets farm system and...Jay Bruce. I’m unsure of who truly fleeced who in this scenario. In other news, is this Jerry Dipoto’s psychological break or is something much more intellectual in the works?
- The Nationals have acquired Yan Gomes from Cleveland. So there goes Washington’s backstop problem...and also the best catcher left on the trade market. Get ready for everyone to fight over Jonathan Lucroy now.
- Sometimes the rich get richer. The Dodgers and Indians have been talking about a deal that would send one of Cleveland’s talented starting pitchers (the talk is mostly centered around Kluber) to Los Angeles and send Yasiel Puig to Cleveland.
- The Padres signed an interesting arm as they locked down Garrett Richards on a two-year deal. The Padres playoff window could start to open soon and if that happens, Richards could be a helpful piece in the rotation. If they need more time, he could get flipped for more assets relatively easily.
- The Reds have non-tendered Billy Hamilton, for literally no dang good reason. Was he too fast? Too defensively stellar? Can’t let the fans too comfortable. Gotta keep ‘em on their toes.
- The likelihood of the Rangers being competitive in 2019 is minimal, but Texas apparently isn’t going to completely abstain from free agency this winter like other bottom-feeding clubs have done in recent years. They’ve reportedly agreed to terms with right-handed swingman Jesse Chavez — who began 2018 in Texas before being traded to the Cubs at the deadline and becoming one of baseball’s most dominant bullpen arms down the stretch — on a two-year, $8 million deal.
- The White Sox have acquired Alex Colome from Mariners, sending catcher Omar Narvaez to the Mariners in return.
- The Reds have inquired about Zack Greinke despite being on his no-trade list and also furthering my theory that the entire organization feel down and hit their heads and woke up not realizing what team this was.
- Signing Donaldson was not the only move the Braves made thus far into Hot Stove season, as they also brought back an old friend in Brian McCann on a low-cost, one-year deal. He may not be the same player he used to be, but given how much demand there is for catching right now, it is hard to argue with a $2 million-dollar deal for a guy who is a proven performer and winner. And everyone loves a homecoming, don’t they?
- The 5 teams that should trade for Paul Goldschmidt, who is easily one of the most underrated players in the game right now (Yankees haters, look away).
- The trade rumors for Noah Syndergaard are catching fire right now, as six teams are reportedly “real players” for the Mets starter.
- The new A’s ballpark proposal is gorgeous and ambitious, but will be tricky as hell to pull off, but it will surely usher in a new era of how we experience baseball games.
- Winter is here...and with it, hot stove season. Here’s a look at the biggest free agents this offseason and what we might see go down when baseball hits the Winter Meetings in Vegas.
