The Mets and Mariners pulled off quite the swap this weekend, sending Robinson Canó (more importantly, his salary), Edwin Díaz, and $20M to the Mets in exchange for Jay Bruce, Gerson Bautista, Jarred Kelenic, Anthony Swarzak, Justin Dunn.
While many were critical of the Mets to take on another old high paid slugger, some feel that New York actually came out victorious. They acquired one of the best closers in the game, a bat that still has some pop, and gave away prospects that are largely unproven, levying the gamble (and Jay Bruce) entirely on Dipoto’s Mariners.
What do you think? Which team had the better end of the bargain, or did everyone break even?
