- The Red Sox were aided in their quest for a World Series championship thanks to the return to health of Nathan Eovaldi whose high octane fastball help the Red Sox cruise through the playoffs. Boston was so fond of him and his work that, despite some real injury risk with him, they locked him down with a four year, $68 million dollar deal.
- While the Indians may very well trade away one or both of Trevor Bauer and Corey Kluber before this offseason is done, Carlos Carrasco does not appear as though he is going to be headed out of town as Cleveland just gave him an extension through 2022. To say the contract is team friendly would be an accurate description.
- The Twins got a bit of a deal on a second baseman with some upside as they acquired Jonathan Schoop on a one year, $7 million deal. He was not good last year, but he showed enough glimpses during his time in Baltimore to make one hopeful.
- The recent moves that the Seattle Mariners have been making have generated a ton of discussion on the internets. Rather than try to browbeat you into an opinion, we decided to ask you, the people, who you think won the Mets/Mariners trade that sent Robinson Cano to New York.
- The Cardinals shook up the National League in a big way by acquiring Paul Goldschmidt, one of the game’s first basemen, from the Diamondbacks for catcher Carson Kelly, right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver, infield prospect Andy Young, and a Competitive Balance Round B pick in next year’s draft.
- While the Goldschmidt news got most of the attention, another former Diamondbacks player was on the move Wednesday, as infield/outfielder Chris Owings signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Royals.
- The Nationals made the biggest splash of this offseason to date (after last year, it feels nice to use that phrase unironically twice in a two-week period), signing former Diamondbacks lefty Patrick Corbin to a six-year, $140 million contract on Tuesday. Corbin earns the biggest contract for a free-agent pitcher in terms of total dollars since the 2015-16 offseason, when David Price and Zack Greinke signed with the Red Sox and Diamondbacks, respectively.
- With the Cardinals looking to add one more big bat to the middle of their lineup and the Diamondbacks perhaps preparing for a reset with much of their current core likely to depart within the next year, things could set up nicely for a deal that would send Paul Goldschmidt to St. Louis.
- Jerry Dipoto continues his impression of that fantasy manager that makes five trade proposals to each team in the league every week, as Seattle sent Jean Segura to the Phillies before the ink was even dry on the Robinson Cano deal. The move has not been particularly well-received due to the lack of a great return for the Mariners.
- After a bit of drama surrounding his future, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has gotten the deal he wanted, as he signed an extension with the club through 2022. With back-to-back World Series appearances under his belt, it always felt like an extension was a no brainer. However, the length of the delay for the extension does mean that there were a few things that the two sides had to work through despite the team’s success.
- Winter is here...and with it, hot stove season. Here’s a look at the biggest free agents this offseason and what we might see go down when baseball hits the Winter Meetings in Vegas.
