The Yankees and Padres are in the news again, per MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. First, the Padres have had discussions with the Miami Marlins regarding a deal involving catcher J.T. Realmuto; the Yankees have had talks, too, but they don’t appear to be a good suitor. Second, the Yankees and Padres are slightly closer to a deal that would send Sonny Gray to San Diego. The trade is still several steps away, but the two sides continue to have negotiations.
#Yankees aren’t seriously discussing J.T. Realmuto with the #Marlins, one source said today. However, the #Padres are among the teams with genuine interest in Realmuto, sources say. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Yankees also plan to meet with Bryce Harper, though st least publicly they seem to question whether there’s a fit there considering their outfield strength/glut. @JeffPassan and @TBrownYahoo 1st mentioned meeting would occur

Not sure what the Marlins precise trade request is from Mets for Realmuto. But heard Mets do not want to do Conforto-Nimmo combo, and they don’t want to trade Rosario at all.

Yeserday, Minor League Baseball was among those to announce that the Las Vegas Triple-A team has gotten a new name. After switching organizations (from the New York Mets to the Oakland Athletics), they changed their name from the Las Vegas 51s to the “Las Vegas Aviators”. Although this doesn’t impact the Winter Meetings, it certainly isn’t a coincidence that the name change was announced the day before the Winter Meetings, which are in Las Vegas this year.
Ready for takeoff: #Athletics' Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate soaring into new era as Aviators.
