After the Padres made a major free agent splash by signing Eric Hosmer to a mega contract, teams have reportedly begun to check on the status of outfielder Hunter Renfroe.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, trade interest for the 26-year-old has escalated since Hosmer agreed to come to San Diego, and the Braves could be a team with heavy interest in adding an outfielder like Renfroe.

With the acquisition of Hosmer, the Padres will shift their star Wil Myers to a corner outfield spot, making an outfielder like Renfroe potentially expendable. Manny Margot will be the team’s starting center fielder, with Jose Pirela potentially manning the corner outfield spot opposite of Myers should Renfroe be moved.
In his first full major league season last year, Renfroe bopped 26 home runs as a bit of an all-or-nothing hitter, as he finished the 2017 season with a .284 on base percentage. In the outfield, he finished with a -10 total zone rating.
