The Orioles have claimed INF/OF Jace Peterson from the Yankees, according to a club announcement made earlier today.
Peterson, whose 28th birthday is near, was signed to a minor-league deal by the Yankees earlier this offseason. The O’s are in need of utility depth, so Peterson could get a shot quickly in Baltimore. Peterson played just three games with the Pinstripes this season going 3-for-10 with a walk and three strikeouts before being designated for assignment when the Yankees turned to Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres.
In his career, Peterson has hit .234/.319/.331 with 15 homers, 98 RBIs, 48 doubles, eight triples, and 22 stolen bases in 386 games. He has appeared every infield position, as well as the all outfield positions. That versatility will likely get him so playing time in Baltimore, even if it is for a brief period of time.
