2018 MLB Draft: The Los Angeles Dodgers select J.T. Ginn with the 30th overall pick

The Dodgers selected a flamethrowing high school reliever with the 30th overall pick

With the 30th pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, the Los Angeles Dodgers selected high school prep arm J.T. Ginn out of Mississippi. Ginn was mocked to the Dodgers by Baseball America.

Ginn was a standout two-way player in high school, but he threw absolute gas on the mound with a fastball the tops out at 99 and a wipeout slider that gives him another plus offering. His changeup lags behind his other offerings but he hasn’t really needed to throw it in high school.

This leads us to the biggest question with Ginn and that is he has been a high school reliever this season. He has been a starter before, so it is possible if not likely that the Dodgers will try that first. If not, Ginn’s two pitch mix will play up in a big way as a reliever even if he cannot stick as a starter or the Dodgers simply like him that much as a reliever.
