The Dodgers seems like the team to beat in order to get Manny Machado, but who even knows at this point

The Manny Machado sweepstakes has been pretty exhausting. Every day, it has felt like a different team from the Dodgers to the Phillies to the Brewers to the Yankees to..well, you get the idea. This is fairly justified since Machado is one of the best players in the league and is also going to be a very high profile free agent after the end of the season.

Yesterday, there were a lot of whispers that the Phillies seemed to have the inside track in snagging Machado from the Orioles. Today, it looks like we have a new leader.

The Dodgers have long been connected to a pursuit for Machado, especially since the loss of Corey Seager. However, talk had backed down a bit as other teams stepped up their offers for a Machado rental. Now it appears that either some of those offers weren’t as firm as were once thought, or (more likely) the Dodgers have significantly upped their offer in order to grab Machado for what appears to be a tough NL West race.

Manny Machado has posted a .315/.387/.575 line in 2018 with 24 home runs and he has accumulated 2.9 rWAR in 96 games.
