The Marlins have traded Brad Ziegler to the Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks got in on the reliever extravaganza as they have acquired Brad Ziegler

MLB: Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

It is hardly a secret that the Miami Marlins are looking to deal away players at the trade deadline. While they haven’t been the “dumpster fire bad” that many thought they would be, the team is not in contention this season and have made it clear that most of their players are available for the right price. The most unlikely piece to be dealt remains J.T. Realmuto as the team values him very highly (with good reason) and would like to build around him.

However, much of their relief corps has drawn interest including Brad Ziegler. Ziegler has a history as a productive reliever, although his numbers in 2018 (3.98 ERA, -0.3 rWAR) have left something to be desired. However, that did not deter the Arizona Diamondbacks from acquiring him.

With the Marlins clearly rebuilding, they sent the veteran reliever out of town to Arizona for, presumably, some pieces for the future. We will update this post with Miami’s return in the deal.

Arizona, meanwhile, is locked in a battle with the Dodgers and surging Rockies in the NL West. With relievers being relatively easy to come by in this trade market, the DBacks pounced on a player that has been much better of late than his overall line would suggest.

Stay tuned, folks. The craziness is bound to continue right up until the deadline.

**UPDATE***

Relief prospect Tommy Eveld is being included in the deal for Ziegler.
