- With division races and wild card battles in the National League closely bunched together, there is a chance the 2018 Major League Baseball regular season will not end on Sept. 30. So, our crew at SB Nation has decided to explain the MLB postseason tiebreakers.
- A couple of Malden, Mass. guys picked up the Red Sox’s soon-to-be AL East Champions banner off of a highway after it fell off a truck, and they held it for ransom. What did these guys get out of the deal?
- Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who has turned himself into a legitimate NL MVP candidate in his third big-league season, exited Monday night’s game with elbow soreness, and on Tuesday afternoon The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that Story could be facing damage to the UCL in his right elbow. However, manager Bud Black told reporters later in the day that the Rockies were pleased with the test results on Story’s elbow and that while he had some inflammation, there wasn’t any significant damage to the ligament.
- When Eric Hosmer decided to sign with the Padres in February, it appeared to be a move that would set the Royals back for four or five years and all but destroy the momentum they had build up through the course of this decade. Fast forward seven months later, though, and it looks like Hosmer leaving may have actually been a good thing for the Royals.
- There are quite a few legitimate contenders in the National League this year, so our own Anthony Spaulding went through the obvious candidates for NL Manager of the Year, with the Braves’ Brian Snitker being an early favorite.
- David Wright was supposed to be the next face of the Mets franchise. Unfortunately, his body broke down, and now it looks like he is going to be calling it quits. He will start one final game with the Mets at the end of the month.
- While the AL playoff races are basically all settled, the National League looks like it is going to be wide-open down to the last week of the season.
- The Yankees have called up highly-anticipated prospect Justus Sheffield. Clint Frazier, who unfortunately can’t seem to get over the concussion symptoms that have plagued him all year, was moved to the 60-day DL to create room on the 40-man roster.
- If you want to know how to do a bat flip the right way, here are the unwritten rules to follow.
- The MLB captain is a dying breed. Our Wayne Cavadi looked at 5 players who deserve the title.
- We took a look at the players who were September call-ups earlier in the month, but here is a look at the players that were, at the risk of sounding less than delicate, snubbed as September call-ups because of service-time considerations and other, more mysterious reasons.
- It’s never too early to start looking at the free-agent hellfire that will rain down on us the moment the World Series ends. For crying out loud, Bryce Harper was being asked about going to the Yankees before this season even began. Check out our preview of the 2018-2019 MLB free-agent class.
