• Giants’ Brandon Belt has undergone season-ending knee surgery, not that there was much for him to miss anyway.
• The Braves have clinched a playoff spot for the first time in five years.
• When Eric Hosmer decided to sign with the Padres in February, it appeared to be a move that would set the Royals back for four or five years and all but destroy the momentum they had build up through the course of this decade.
