Pour one out for another Yankee to see the last of the field this season; Miguel Andujar has decided to have season ending surgery after sustaining a torn labrum earlier this year. This comes six weeks after intense rehabilitation in his throwing arm and only two weeks after making his return to the Bronx.

The 24-year old slashed a hearty .297.328.527 last year, while also finishing in second place in American League Rookie of the Year voting. Luckily for both Yankees fan and enjoy-watching-dingers-fans, this rising star’s injury mostly impacted his ability to throw and not hit. Fingers crossed it that stays that way post surgery and the Yankees don’t lose Andujar’s bat as well. Following his return to the plate on May 4th, the Dominican Republic native was 3-for-34 with nine strikeouts, causing the Yankees to reconsider other methods and place him back on the IL.

This now makes Gio Urshela the mainstay and unlikely savior at third base for the year, a name Yankees fans are officially becoming used to instead of repeatedly saying, “Wait, who is this again?”, like the rest of the replacements for other fallen Bronx Bombers. Urshela has quickly elevated to a fan favorite, slashing a monster .341/.396/.505 for the season so far. The Yankees acquired Urshela from the Blue Jays last August for cash considerations. The Yankees also recently infielder Breyvic Valera off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, who will hang out in Scranton and serve as extra extra backup, because as we learned now you can never be too prepared.

Chris Ahmad, the team’s head physician, will be performing the surgery on Andujar next week. He’ll then start the roughly four month recovery from zero all over again—rehabbing his shoulder and refining his infield skills, a process he dedicated the entire offseason to, hopefully this time to a much happier outcome.
