The Yankees’ disastrous injury luck continues, as they’ve now placed left-handed pitcher James Paxton on the injured list with left knee inflammation:

Paxton, 30, has been the Bronx Bombers’ de facto ace this season with Luis Severino on the injured list due to a variety of ailments. The former Mariner has a 3.11 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP, but he’ll now miss at least a brief amount of time with soreness that ailed him in his most recent start, when he was pulled after walking three and allowing two hits and an unearned run over three innings.

Paxton joins Severino, Dellin Betances, Ben Heller, and Jordan Montgomery as Yankees pitchers who are currently on the injured list. More significantly, they’ve had a rash of position-player injuries, with Troy Tulowitzki, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Greg Bird, Didi Gregorius, Clint Frazier, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Aaron Hicks all out of action at the moment. He is expected to be replaced in the Yankees’ rotation by Jonathan Loaisiga (who is currently at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre), as The Athletic’s Lindsey Adler relayed following Aaron Boone’s postgame press conference:
