The Red Sox have placed left-handed starter and 2018 World Series hero David Price on the 10-day injured list with left elbow tendinitis, as the team announced Monday morning:
The #RedSox today placed LHP David Price on the 10-day injured list with left elbow tendinitis, retroactive to May 3.

To fill Price’s spot, the club selected RHP Ryan Weber (#65) to the active major league roster from Triple-A Pawtucket. Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 40.
Price has had a bit of bad luck with his pitching elbow over the past few years, missing a total of three-and-a-half months due to a pair of disabled list stints in 2017 — one for an elbow strain, and another for elbow inflammation. Details aren’t exactly plentiful at this point, but early indications are that this injured list stint is more precautionary than anything — and that makes sense, considering that Price pitched an extra month last season and needs to be managed conservatively this season, even as they currently sit at 17-18, trying to battle back from a slow start.
Price has put together another strong start to the season this year, posting a 3.75 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP, 42 strikeouts, and 10 walks over six starts (36 innings). He’s been by far the best starter on a Red Sox staff that has seen Rick Porcello, Eduardo Rodriguez, Chris Sale, and the now-injured Nathan Eovaldi struggle to start the season.
