Gallen, 23, was drafted by Miami in the third round of the 2016 draft. He made his debut earlier this season and has since gone 1-3 in seven starts, posting a 2.72 ERA and allowing 12 runs on 25 hits and 18 walks in 36.1 innings. He has also struck out 43 opponents.
Chisholm, 21, was an international signing by Arizona in 2015. While he is Arizona’s top prospect, he has struggled this season, slashing just .204/.305/.427 in 89 games at Double-A while knocking in 44 runs on 64 hits, including 18 homers. The shortstop has walked 41 times and struck out 123 this year.
It’s certainly an interesting trade from both team’s perspectives. Gallen is ranked lower but has a higher ceiling and more high-level experience. Chisholm is ranked higher but the uncertainty remains considering he hasn’t made it beyond Double-A yet.
Nonetheless, it’s a deadline day deal!
