Red Sox select INF Nick Yorke with the 17th pick in the 2020 MLB Draft

With the 17th selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, the Boston Red Sox selected infielder Nick Yorke out of Archibishop Mitty HS.

The pick isn’t surprising from a talent perspective. Yorke has an excellent hit tool that scouts have long coveted who should also be a really solid defender at second base in all likelihood. You will get differing reports on his arm and whether he could play a more premium position like shortstop especially since he hasn’t grown into his power yet, but you do have to look hard to find scouts that think he is a future big leaguer.

The bigger issue is that before the draft, he was considered a very tough sign away from his Arizona commitment. It will be interesting to see if he ends up signing and maybe Boston sees something special here or if they were essentially punting on a guy that they knew wouldn’t sign.
