Sunday’s game between the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins featured a scary moment. In the fourth inning, with the Twins leading by a score of 4-1, Indians outfielder Josh Naylor collided with second baseman Ernie Clement in shallow right field.
Naylor suffered a severe right leg injury. He was experiencing extreme pain and had to be carted off the field.
The Indians issued a tweet shortly after, asking for the community to send good vibes to Naylor. The Twins also tweeted that they were keeping Naylor and the Indians in their thoughts.

The details of Naylor’s reaction are unsettling. Zack Meisel of The Athletic noted that the outfielder “writhed around in the outfield grass like a fish out of water” immediately after the collision.
Josh Naylor is being removed from the field via a cart. Ernie Clement clearly feels terrible, had his hat covering most of his face as he returned to the dugout to be checked.

Just a brutal, brutal collision. Naylor writhed around in the outfield grass like a fish out of water.
Naylor is slashing .253/.301/.399 with seven homers, 21 runs batted in, 14 walks, and 45 strikeouts through 69 games this season. He is Cleveland’s primary right fielder, though he has also spent 15 games at first base.
The Indians have yet to provide an update on Naylor’s status, but he’ll surely miss significant time. We’re wishing Naylor the best as he heads for further examination, as well as throughout his recovery.
