With the 25th selection in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Athletics selected SS Max Muncy out of Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks, California.

While he currently resides in the Greater Los Angeles area and shares a birthday with the Dodgers’ two-time All-Star, this Max Muncy is not related to the 2020 World Series champion. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is one of the more high-upside options in a class that is heavy on talented shortstops. Muncy doesn’t have elite contact-hitting skills, and while he’s solid defensively, he may end up at second or third base as a pro. His power potential is too enticing to ignore, though, and made him a high pick in this year’s draft.
