With the seventh pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Royals have selected Frank Mozzicato, a tall and lanky prep prospect from Connecticut.

The 18-year-old Mozzicato checks in at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds. He throws and bats left-handed and offers a very solid pitch selection.

Mozzicato’s best pitch is his curveball, which exhibits well-above-average break and spin. He can use this pitch as a very effective complement to his fastball, which certainly isn’t a poor offering, either. His heater has gained velocity as of late and now checks in around the lower-90s.

Mozzicato also possesses a changeup, and he boasts decent control with all three pitches. While it is clear which pitch his best, middle, and worst, all three have potential to grow into lethal offerings with some more development.

At the end of the day, scouts must see untapped potential in Mozzicato. The excellence of his curveball is evident, his fastball could gain even more speed, and his changeup could add further illusion to his repertoire. This is a player who really doesn’t have any glaring concerns to his name, which is certainly a good thing.
