With the 33rd pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers selected 2B Tyler Black out of Wright State University.

There aren’t a ton of high profile Canadian prospects in this year’s draft, but Tyler Black has consistently ranked at the top of that demographic and was worked his way into the discussion as one of the better pure hitters on the college side in this draft class.

With Black, you are getting a guy who put up video game numbers in a very hitter friendly ballpark in college. That said, he passes the eye test for sure and all of the analytics suggest that he hits the ball hard and teams love his ability to hit. However, he is likely to be a guy with average power as a pro and defensively, he is definitely a second baseman as he doesn’t have the arm or tools to stick at short. Drafting him means the Brewers love the bat and will figure out the rest later.
