Mets acquire Rich Hill from Rays

The Mets are trying to build their rotation back. Hopefully.

Why yes friends, that is correct: Rich Hill is heading to the Mets by way of trade with the Rays, reports Robert Murray of FanSided.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that in in exchange for Dick Mountain—er, Rich Hill— the Mets will send currently injured pitcher Tommy Hunter and Double-A catcher Matt Dyer to Tampa. The Rays are freshly off of acquiring Nelson Cruz, and it comes as no surprise that they’re wheeling and dealing with a week left before the deadline.

The southpaw veteran has struggled a bit this season, pitching a 3.87 ERA in 95 13 innings. But even though his strikeout rate has dropped and he’s only recorded 91 so far in the season, those are some pretty strong numbers for a pitcher with gas in the tank at 41-years old. With deGrom’s timeline still foggy for the Mets, and David Peterson out with an oblique strain, a strong, rallying presence such as Hill’s will do the team well. And considering there bordering on desperate for starters, trading for a strong, seasoned pitcher partially in exchange for someone who is literally on the IL seems like the steal of the century.

Hill could make his first appearance with the Mets as soon as Sunday.
